This arrangement of Sicilienne by Gabriel Fauré includes

  • Piano Score with saxophone part shown in C
  • B flat saxophone (soprano or tenor) solo part (transposed)
  • E flat saxophone (alto or baritone) solo part (transposed)

This arrangement of Sicilienne, Op. 78 is for Any Saxophone Solo with Piano. It is in the original keys of G minor and E flat major. Typical of the sicilienne, it is in 6/8 time and a moderate tempo with a gently rocking feeling. The playing time of the piece is typically between three and a half and four minutes. Some sections of the melody are quite chromatic and will provide a challenge to rising players. Overall, the piece provides an excellent opportunity for the soloist to demonstrate their expressive, lyrical playing skills. The E-flat solo part reaches into the lower altissimo range and is therefore a bit more advanced. An alternate passage is provided in that part to avoid the altissimo if desired.

About the Composer

Portrait of Gabriel Faure, composer of Sicilienne, Op. 78 and many other worksGabriel Urbain Fauré (12 May 1845 – 4 November 1924) was a French composer, organist, pianist and teacher. He was one of the foremost French composers of his generation, and his musical style influenced many 20th-century composers. Among his best-known works are his Pavane, Requiem, Sicilienne, Elegie, nocturnes for piano and the songs “Après un rêve” and “Clair de lune”. Although his best-known and most accessible compositions are generally his earlier ones, Fauré composed many of his most highly regarded works in his later years, in a more harmonically and melodically complex style.
